S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Genesis 20:6 (NKJV) And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.”
Genesis 20:11 (NKJV) And Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely the fear of God [is] not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife.”
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
Abraham travelled to Gerar. He imagined the people there didn’t fear God and would murder him for Sarah. He thought the worst of them.
As it turned out, the opposite was true. The people of this land, even the king himself, had great integrity of heart. In fact, King Abimelech showed much greater integrity than Abraham himself.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
I need to be careful that I don’t think the worst of people. Especially without giving them a chance. People who I may think are godless and out to get me may, in fact, have more integrity than I have.
Rather than doubting people, give them the benefit of the doubt. Don’t predefined motives, intentions or motives. Fear and self-preservation can affect my perception of people.
Jesus gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Everyone was deemed worthy of His touch and His time.
Don’t worry about the integrity of others. Concern yourself with your own integrity.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Father, Make me a person of integrity. Remove my tendency to see the worst in people so the best of them can shine. Amen.
