A Most Important Prayer

Daily Reading // Isaiah 44:1-20

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;

Today my journaling time is made up mostly with thinking about and praying for my descendants: my kids, grandkids and beyond.

The first part of this verse reminds me of the beatitudes when Jesus says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” There is something great about staying thirsty. Stay thirsty, my friends.

Then God promises, not only will you be filled, but He will pour out on your descendants also. That is a precious promise.

I'm looking across the room at pictures of my three grandchildren right now. One of the most important things to me in the whole world is that they would have the Spirit of the Lord poured out into them. That they would know His Presence and His Power all their life. That the joy of the Lord would be their strength. In this crazy world we live in, that they would know Jesus and the power of His resurrection as their stabilizing truth.

I want nothing more than this. I pray for my kids, each spouse (who I also consider as my kids), and their children that their confidence and identity would be firmly in the Lord.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Father, Pour out Your blessing on my offspring, according to Your Word. Amen.
