S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Mark 4:35-36 (NKJV) 35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

This is probably the same boat from which He taught the multitudes by the sea. He was teaching from it and then He said, “Let’s take our teaching ship across to the other side.”

The teaching continued. The most instructive lesson for the disciples was about to be taught.

A great storm arose and they feared for their life. Now their ‘classroom’ pitched and creaked and began to take on water. They feared for their life. The teacher was asleep at the front of the class. They woke Him and He gave them one of the greatest lessons of all. He spoke and the waves were gone.

Then they were really afraid and said, “Who is this?”

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

The journey is part of the lesson.

The disciples thought they were going from point A to point B. It was just travel time. What they didn’t realize is the journey is an important part of it. Jesus is always teaching. Destination and on the journey.

The times of intermission, interlude and in-between are full of opportunities to learn and see Jesus in a new way. Always be looking for His instruction. Always be ready to learn something. The learning never stops.

Today is a good day to learn something from Jesus.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Even the wind and the waves obey You. Teach me how I can obey You more. Amen.
