S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Titus 2:7 (NKJV) in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

In this short epistle Paul gives Titus plenty of instruction about his words. He tells this young leader how he should speak to those he is leading as well as to those who are opposing him. Speech is important.

Then it comes to this, “be a pattern”. Don’t just talk about godly living. Show them how to do it with your own life. Give them an example. Don’t just teach your doctrine. Live it out.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

My life should always be consistent with what I believe and what I teach about the gospel. Always.

Sometimes inconsistencies can creep in on me and I don’t even know it. That’s why, as James says, the Bible is our mirror. The more I look into it the more I can see my own life and see how I’m doing.

I need to not just read the Bible but let it read me. With every word I need to ask the question, “Do I do that? What does that look like in my life?”

That’s when the life and truth of God’s Word really makes a difference.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, make my life a pattern for others consistent with Your Word. Amen.
