S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

1 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV) Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

The Apostle Paul was writing to his friends in Corinth. He gave them a good general rule to follow: Be an imitator. He said, “I am an imitator of Christ. If it’s helpful you can imitate me because I am imitating Christ.”

The word here for imitate is the word we get ‘mimic’ from.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I don’t have to blaze a new trail to God. Jesus blazed the trail. Others have been following it. I can follow them.

Another word that comes from this Greek word is the old word mimeograph. Before copiers we had mimeograph machines. Put on an original and any number of copies can be made.

I want my life to look as close to Jesus as possible. From this verse, here are a couple of cautions:

1- Watch out who you imitate. Make sure they are an authentic copy of Jesus

2- Watch out who might be imitating you. Paul shows that true imitators can be imitated by others. Your life matters to others.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Help me today in imitating and being imitated. Make me a true copy. Amen.
