S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Psalm 53:1 NKJV 1 To the Chief Musician. Set to "Mahalath." A Contemplation of David. The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
There is a strong connection between knowing there is a God and doing good. This verse connects the two by saying the fool says there is no God and is corrupt. Why wouldn’t he be? Psalm 111 says the same thing from the other perspective. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
My behavior reveals whether or not I really believe there is a God. If I say I believe there is a God but cheat people, hate people and do ungodly things in secret, then I really don’t believe God sees me. If I do things for my own gain only and never selflessly for others, never sacrificial and my good deeds are always on display to be seen and rewarded by others, then I don’t really believe that God sees in secret and is my rewarder.
My behavior reveals my true believe. In other words: Actions speak louder than words.
What do my actions say about my belief?
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Jesus, Show me anyplace where my actions, public and private, are inconsistent with my faith in You. Amen.
