Afraid To Hope
“So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage.”
Exodus 6:9 NKJV
The children of Israel had been in Egypt for 400 years at this time. (For perspective, the U.S. has been a nation only 245 years). Many of those years had been cruel bondage and oppression. When Moses came with the word from God they did not believe “because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage”. They were afraid to hope for fear of disappointment.
Hope is a joy and a privilege. Hope can be elusive when someone is afraid to hope. Hope may take some time. Let hope build. It may not come all at once. Don’t let fear or disappointment steal away your hope.
Father of Hope, Speak to hearts of those who are in anguish of spirit today. Spark hope and blow it into a great flame. Amen.
