Daily Reading // Luke 2:8-20

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Luke 2:15 (NKJV) So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”

The shepherds received a phenomenal visitation from angels. Wow! Who wouldn’t love to see that?! Not only did they see an angel but they heard the angel speak to them. Not only that, but one angel was joined by a bunch of other angels. And all the angels lifted up their voice praising God together. Wow!!

There are plenty of people who would give anything to have this kind of supernatural experience. They seek after it. It would be the goal of their life. This experience would be an amazing end in itself. After witnessing something like this, they would sit and reflect on it. Maybe they would write about it, sing songs about it, or go on the talk show circuit about this experience.

The shepherds didn’t see this visitation as an end in itself. They heard the message. They responded to the message. They knew the supernatural experience wasn’t an end in itself. It was leading them to something else. They could seek the experience or seek the Savior. They chose to seek the Savior.

A group of angels was not the most amazing thing they saw that night. A baby was.

Isn’t it interesting that a group of angels told them, “Hey, follow my instructions and you can see a Baby.” I’m sure they had all seen a baby before. But the most incredible thing they saw that night was in the most common and familiar package.

I am not to seek after supernatural signs as an end goal of my spiritual walk. Those things are not an end. They point to something or Someone else.

And be alert! Sometimes the most incredible things come in very common packages.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, Help me to see You in the common things of my life. And, if You want, send me a group of angels too. Amen.
