“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you; Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you. Who among all these does not know That the hand of the Lord has done this,”
Job 12:7-9 NKJV
Job is talking about the knowledge of God and His handiwork. He says, ‘Ask the animals or even the earth and they will tell you.’ I think of a few things when he says this.
First of all, Jesus used a lot of parables about creation in His teaching. God has put a great deal of truth within His created order. We can learn a lot from plants, birds and other animals.
I think this goes even deeper. All facets of scientific exploration - biology, geology, oceanography, astronomy, etc - reveals the reality of God. Science doesn’t disprove God. It continually affirms His handiwork.
And finally, I would not be surprised to find out that animals are more in tune to God than we are. Our ‘sophistication’ gets in the way.
I have a lot to learn from all of creation.
Father of all creation, Help me have an open heart and open eyes to the things I can learn all around me. Amen.
