S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Psalms 46:10 (NKJV) Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

This passage has two commands (imperatives) and two statements in the future tense.

The two commands, things that I can do and am told to do, are: Be still, and Know that I am God.

The two certain future statements are: I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted on the earth.

The relationship between the commands and the future statements are not causality. In other words, it is not ‘if you do this then this will be the result’. It is NOT saying, ‘if you are still and know I am God, then the result will be that I will be exalted...”

The two future statements are independent of the two commands. Whether you obey the first two commands or not the second part, the future statements, will still be true.

The sense of the context is more like, ‘Since I will be exalted no matter what, you can just be still and know that I am God’.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

God is God, no matter what.

No matter what people know or think they know, God is still God. No matter what people do or don’t do, He is still God.

My belief and activity doesn’t add to Him. He is certain. He will be exalted among the nations on the earth.

That is a settled fact. I can rest in it. I can know it for sure.

“Be still and know that I am God.” That is the perfect remedy for anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, busyness and self-doubt.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

God, I can have confidence in You alone. I choose confidence in You over everything else today. I rest in You right now. Amen.
