Isaiah 46:4 Even to [your] old age, I [am] He, And [even] to gray hairs I will carry [you!] I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver [you.]
We often hear about Jesus taking up the little children in His arms. He blessed them. When the disciples told them to go away, Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbids them not”. What a great story.
Jesus loves children, but He doesn’t just love children. Jesus also loves people of old age and gray hair. People of old age are like children to the ‘Ancient of Days’. This passage says He will carry the old. Like a father carries and cares for his small children, God carries and cares for us even at our oldest.
When our girls were small, we made bedtime fun. They loved it when I carried them upstairs to their room. Often they would both get on my back as I gave them a horsey-ride up the stairs. They laughed the whole way.
They are now in their 30’s. I don’t do that anymore.
God is still able to carry me. When He is carrying me, it’s not just to convey me from one place to another. It’s also very relational. I’m about as close to God as I’ll ever be when I just need Him to carry me for a while. Like a good dad, He is always quick to oblige.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
Father, When I am tired, or uncertain or even scared, I need You to carry me. No matter how old I get, I am still Your child. Thank You for that truth. Amen.
