Chariot of Fire

Daily Reading // Isaiah 66:14-24

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 66:14 (NKJV) When you see [this,] your heart shall rejoice, And your bones shall flourish like grass; The hand of the LORD shall be known to His servants, And [His] indignation to His enemies.
Isaiah 66:15 (NKJV) For behold, the LORD will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire.

This chapter is a sobering prophecy. As the final chapter of Isaiah, it is a last warning of sorts. But it is also a promise.

What is a warning to some is a promise to others.

The hand of the Lord will be, to His servants, cause for rejoicing and flourishing. That same hand will be indignation to His enemies. He is to me according to my choices.

Then it mentions a chariot of fire. Of course, Elijah was taken up in a chariot of fire. I always thought that must have been quite a ride. I never realized the symbolism before, and it matches this truth today. Jesus’ return is a ride to heaven for some and fiery judgement for others. Some will be transported to glory. Others will be utterly destroyed. The same ride but much different consequences.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, I look forward to your return more and more every day. I will rejoice and flourish in Your presence. Amen.

Tomorrow’s reading -> Psalm 28:1-9
