For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.
II Corinthians 2:4 NKJV
Paul was fully vested in his relationship with the Corinthians. He wasn’t a distant, disinterested spectator. He was vulnerable with them. They brought him joy and gladness. They also caused him anguish and tears. That’s how real love in community goes.
I see so many people keeping a safe distance from community because they don’t want to be vulnerable or be disappointed. It also means they won’t experience the deep joy and celebration of close, close relationship. I’ll take the ups and downs of close community every time.
Jesus, You said, “Father, make them one as You and I are one.” Thank You for Your prayer to connect me in committed community. Amen.
