S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
1 Samuel 22:8 (NKJV) “All of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who reveals to me that my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse; and there is not one of you who is sorry for me or reveals to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day.”
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
Saul was the original conspiracy theorist. He created this world in his head where everyone was out to get him. It appeared to him as though everyone was on David’s side and no one was on his side.
This caused him to do irrational things. He killed all the priests whom he imagined were against him because they helped David. In reality, they helped David because they thought he was in alliance with Saul. By helping David they thought they were helping Saul, not working against him.
Notice Saul says, ‘Not one of you feels sorry for me’. That describes the self pity of the conspiracy theorists.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Be careful. A person can justify all sorts of evil when they have been taken in by a huge conspiracy plot. Everything becomes self-defense, imagining everyone is the enemy.
Fear and paranoia over a conspiracy theory clouds the mind. There is a plot concocted by the enemy of our souls - Satan. He is a schemer. That is true. But seeing vast numbers of people as your enemy is not healthy or safe.
No conspiracy is able to succeed against those God protects in His stronghold. We don’t have to be on high alert against harm.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Father, Because of Your great care for me I don’t have to feel sorry for myself. I can, as You say in Your Word, even love my enemies. I trust Your care for me today. Amen.
