O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

I have always loved this story for many reasons.

David, not just as king but also as loving father, is passing on his passion and dream to his son, Solomon. David really wanted to build the temple but he knew the only way he could do it was through his son - the next generation.

David encouraged Solomon. He believed in his son and told him about God’s promises to work through him.

David did all he could to partner in this great undertaking but he could not take the lead. He had to leave that to Solomon. Though David would never see Solomon’s Temple I am sure it would have surpassed his greatest dreams.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I am strongly reminded by David and his actions that each generation must believe in and release the coming generation to do great things. My dreams for the future will only be realized through them.

Each family continues their lineage only as children are born, grow and have children of their own. Every church continues its legacy only as it is continually investing in the next generation. I’ve heard it said, “Every church is only one generation away from extinction.”

What are the practical ways that I invest in those younger than me and let them know I believe in them? Do I do it with my own family? How about others God has put in my life?

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Give me wisdom and humility to believe in the next generation and to do my part in their preparation. Amen.
