Daily Reading // Psalm 28:1-9
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
Psalms 28:3 (NKJV) Do not take me away with the wicked And with the workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors, But evil [is] in their hearts.
You can’t hide what’s in your heart from God. You can’t cover it over with pleasant words. You’ve got to deal with what’s in your heart.
When Samuel went to Jesse’s house to select one of his sons as the next king, God told Samuel, “Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart”.
How do I identify and treat issues of my heart? This verse holds a clue. Is there any place where I find myself thinking one thing but saying another and not being genuine with how I feel? It’s possible I am hiding that feeling because it is a heart issue that needs to be dealt with. Don’t just keeping covering and hiding it. Deal with it.
Is there hatred in my heart? Deal with it. Is there evil intent? Deal with it. Is there deception, envy or bitterness that is unexpressed? It’s not enough to cover it. Deal with it.
Don’t disguise what needs to be dealt with at the root.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalms 139:24 NKJV)
Amen.
