S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Isaiah 37:6 (NKJV) And Isaiah said to them, “Thus you shall say to your master, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
The Assyrian army had been waging a propaganda war against Israel. They had used threats: If you don’t surrender you will be eating your own waste. And they had used promises: Submit to us and every man will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree.
Eating figs and grapes beat out your own waste any day.
As it turns out, none of it came about. Their threats were empty threats. Their promises were empty promises. The only truth at the end was what God had spoken.
To keep them from losing heart, God said, “Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard.” A great reminder.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Propaganda continues today. Threats are made: “If you don’t wear a mask we’ll all die.” Promises are made: “If you take this vaccine you will be saved.”
“If you trust this politician you are a domestic terrorist.” “If you trust this politician you are enlightened.”
Empty. Empty. Empty. The only thing that turns out to be true in the end is God’s Word. I can count on that 100%.
Do not be afraid of the words you have heard.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Jesus, You alone have the words of eternal life. Amen.
