S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Genesis 18:3 (NKJV) and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
“Do not pass by Your servant” That really stuck out to me today.
There’s not much worse than being passed by. Someone goes right by you. They’ve come this far, they’re so close, they could easily take the time to stop but they keep right on going.
This was Abraham’s fear. That he would somehow miss out on a golden opportunity. It’s not enough being in close proximity to the Lord as He passes by. Abraham wanted to stop Him. Eat with Him. Spend time with Him.
Being passed by misses the chance for all of those.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Like this passage, there were times when Jesus gave the impression that He was going to pass someone by, but they did something about it.
After His resurrection, Jesus was walking to Emmaus with two travelers. He indicated He was going to keep on going and pass by their stop. They constrained Him to stay.
When Jesus walked on the water the disciples in the boat thought He was going to walk on by them, but they called to Him.
A woman with a great physical need thought she would miss her chance to be healed by Jesus, so she pressed through the crowd and touched Him.
Blind Bartimaeus sat on the side of the road and heard that Jesus was passing by. He called out until he was brought to Jesus.
There may be times when it seems like Jesus is passing me by. Maybe so that I call out to Him. Maybe so that I will press through to Him. Maybe so hat I will invite Him into my situation.
Don’t be content for a drive-by. Don’t be content to know Jesus as a passerby. “Oh well, as least I was close as He passed by” isn’t good enough.
Press in. Call out. Invite. Urge. Whatever it takes.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Jesus, You have not passed me by! Hallelujah! How can I be in Your presence today? Amen.
