Now therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, child and infant, out of Judah, leaving none to remain,”
Jeremiah 44:7 NKJV
The people of Israel were ignoring God and doing their own thing. They were not listening to Him or obeying His statutes. In fact, they were kind of proud of their disobedience. As a loving Father, God asked them, “Why are you doing this great evil against yourselves?”
When I disobey God and go against what He has said in His word I am acting against myself. I am hurting myself.
Sin is me acting against myself. It is me hurting myself. God doesn’t punish sin. Sin is its own punishment.
Father, You don’t want me to commit great evil against myself. Empower me to live for You today. Amen.
