Foolish Wisdom

Daily Reading // 1 Corinthians 3:18-23

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

1 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV) Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.

Here is another place in scripture where what you might naturally think to be true is actually the opposite of what is true. We’ve got to watch our thinking and our assumptions.

If you think yourself to be wise in natural standards then you are really a fool. Man’s wisdom is foolishness to God.

The way to become wise is to become a fool. Only then can you hope to gain wisdom.

Don’t be surprised when those who are most foolish think themselves to be extremely wise. That seems to be how it goes.

Notice “...in this age”. True wisdom requires information and understanding that goes beyond this age. Anyone who limits their understanding and beliefs to this age only - what can be seen and known in the natural - can’t achieve real wisdom.

I would rather be a fool in this age and wise towards the unseen, the things of God.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

God, Teach me Your truths. If some of my own misunderstanding is in the way, help me get beyond it. Amen.

Tomorrow’s reading -> Psalms 30:1-12
