S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Nahum 1:3 (NKJV) The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The LORD has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

It is better to be God’s friend than to be God’s enemy.

Nineveh found that out the hard way. They did what ever they wanted and appeared to get away with it. They terrorized people and took their belongings. They were inhumane in how they dealt with others just to keep a level of fear. They prospered from their actions so they continued doing them.

By living in an ungodly way and brutally treating others they distanced themselves from God and became His enemy. It caught up with them in the end and they were utterly destroyed.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I can choose to be a friend of God or to be an enemy of God. I would much rather be His friend!

The lesson of Nineveh is: Don’t be fooled. You may get away with something for a while but not forever. The Lord is slow to anger. Don’t misinterpret that as passive. He is great in power.

One day all things will be recompensed.

Today I will find ways to live as a friend of God.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, You have called me friend. What an amazing privilege to be Your friend! Amen.
