Daily Reading // Micah 5:2

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Micah 5:2 (NKJV) “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, [Though] you are little among the thousands of Judah, [Yet] out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth [are] from of old, From everlasting.”

This morning I am thinking about that phrase “whose going forth are from of old, from everlasting.”

It’s a tough concept for us. Jesus was born in Bethlehem but He didn’t originate there. He is “from everlasting”.

It was a tough concept for the Jewish leaders too when Jesus told them “before Abraham was, I am”. They picked up stones to stone Him. Not because of His poor grammar. Because He used a phrase and a concept reserved only for God Himself.

Only God is from everlasting. That doesn’t mean from a long, long time ago. It means having no beginning.

When I try to think about that it hurts my brain. What does it look like to have no beginning? I have a limited mind, I can’t comprehend it. It’s like trying to imagine the end of the vastness of space. I can’t comprehend space never ending. But neither could I imagine what the end of space would look like. And what’s beyond that?

Christmas reminds me the Infinite became finite. God became flesh. So that I, who am finite, could be brought into an infinite and everlasting existence that I have no way of understanding.

I am so glad that faith can take me where my understanding never could.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, You came from everlasting to reach me. Thank You for undertaking this rescue mission. Amen.
