Full House

Daily Reading // Matthew 2:1-12

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Matthew 2:11 (NKJV) And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

When the wise men arrived to see Jesus He was in a house in Bethlehem. Bethlehem was just a plain, little city. They had just come from Jerusalem, which was much larger, well-known and grander. What a difference between the two.

And they had just come from Herod’s royal palace. It was much more impressive than this little house in Bethlehem.

I wonder if they were surprised that the object of their search, the new King of the Jews, was in a plain house in a plain city. No fanfare. No fuss. There He was.

Sometimes it seems like my plain, ordinary life isn’t exciting enough for Jesus to really be involved. My life? My family? My home? Does He really concern Himself with that?

This house in Bethlehem is a perfect picture to think about. He is present in the ordinary. He is found in the unimpressive.

No matter how plain or routine my day is today I can be sure of His presence.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, Thanks for Your interest in my everyday and un-extraordinary life. Amen.
