Abraham was entering Gerar. He figured the worst of the people there. He began operating defensively because he figured they didn’t know God. His number one concern was self-preservation.
As it turned out, Abimilech listened to God and had a great deal of personal integrity. He did what God told him to do and even went above and beyond, giving generously to Abraham. Abraham really got them wrong.
Like Abraham, I make decisions about people based on false perceptions. I decide about people’s integrity and relationship with God before I give them a chance. Abraham was way off. So am I.
Father, Help me see the best in people, expect the best from people, instead of the worst. Save me from my own over-active self preservation. Amen.
