Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
Psalms 44:8 (NKJV) In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah
Boasting can be very obnoxious. The boaster can’t get enough of recounting his achievements and awards. He won’t leave one out. He won’t let you forget it. He will remind you over and over and over again.
Any achievement you might mention, he’ll tell you how he’s done it better.
That may be irritating self-promotion, but it’s not a bad pattern for praise. Boasting about God is one of the best and healthiest things I can do.
Not that God needs my boasting or my promotion, but I need to be reminded of how awesome He is and all He has done.
Here’s the other thing: A boaster usually exaggerates a bit. His exploits are not quite as good as his boast. With God that’s never true. You can never ‘over-sell’ God. Speak the most amazing boast possible - and He’s even greater than that.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
God, You are the only One worthy of boasting. You are sovereign, You are full of grace and mercy. Your thoughts are beyond comprehension and Your ways are past finding out. You do all things well. You have given us every good and perfect gift. You have no match and no equal. Amen.
