God-Image or Man-Label

Daily Reading // Isaiah 22:15-25

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 24:2 And it shall be: As with the people, so with the priest; As with the servant, so with his master; As with the maid, so with her mistress; As with the buyer, so with the seller; As with the lender, so with the borrower; As with the creditor, so with the debtor.

It is certainly within our nature to make distinctions among people. “What do you do for a living?” “Where are you from?” “Where did you go to college?” We certainly notice whether people have notoriety or not. Language, customs, age and financial status are among just a few of other identifiers.

God is not impressed by anyone’s high status. There is no king or celebrity that gets special treatment. There is also no one who is too low to get His full attention. Jesus certainly showed that during His earthly ministry. He spent time with those of no pedigree.

There will come a day when everything will be stripped away. I will stand, like everyone else, before God to give account. No special treatment or exceptions. All are made in God’s image. That was the first identifier and will be the final one. Every other label is temporary.

Do I treat others according to their God-image, or their man-label?

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, all will bow before You. And yet you stooped down to touch the leper, the blind and the adulteress. No one is too high or too low. Show me where I may treat others differently according to privilege or position. Amen.

Tomorrow’s reading -> Psalm 16:1-11
