S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Genesis 45:5 (NKJV) “But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

Joseph had been wronged by his brothers and suffered as a result of it. Now that he was in a position to get his revenge, he didn’t. In fact he did just the opposite. He blessed them, cared for them and forgave them. He even saw the hand of God at work in the situation.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

How many of us could respond in the way that Joseph did? As far as we know from scripture they never ‘paid’ for their crime. Even after Jacob died Joseph didn’t get his revenge.

I don’t think Joseph was saying his brothers were being godly when they sold him. But they were being used by God. There is a difference.

If I trust God for everything in my life, could I forgive people who have wronged me like Joseph did? Can I believe, like Joseph, that God uses everything for His purposes?

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, You are the Righteous Judge of all the earth. I trust Tou with everything. Amen.
