Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
John 12:3 NKJV
What Mary did was unprecedented. It was unexpected. It wasn’t part of any script. It wasn’t a customary act. She felt directed in the moment to do something that was out of the ordinary. Some criticized her. Jesus commended her.
Sometimes we need to go off script. Am I able to sense the urge at the moment and respond in a creative way? Am I able to do something I’ve never done before when the Spirit directs me?
I want to be more like Mary.
Father, I give my soul permission to worship and serve you in new and unexpected ways today. Amen.
