Good Idea Or God’s Idea

Writer's picture: Pastor JimPastor Jim

“Wherever I have moved about with all Israel, have I ever spoken a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar–’ ”

‭‭I Chronicles‬ ‭17‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Building God a temple was a great idea. David thought it made sense. When Nathan heard the idea, he also loved it. What a great idea.

It was a great idea, but it’s not what God said. It wasn’t God’s idea. The timing was off. The person who would undertake the project was off.

David wasn’t chastised for having this great idea. In fact, God said, ‘Since you wanted to build me a house, I will build you a house.’

He wasn’t chastised, but he was told to drop his plans. He wasn’t to proceed. Because it was a good idea, but it wasn’t obedience.

Obedience is more important than good ideas. What does God have to say about your plans?

Father, I want to hear You, and obey You, more than I want good ideas. Amen.
