Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
Revelation 21:1 NKJV
Here we are, on New Year’s Eve. The old year will be over and gone. History. The new year begins. The first words of this verse reminds me of that.
The time referenced in Revelation is different. The old world will be gone - forever. The new world will be here to stay - forever.
The world we live in now is temporary. It will come to an end. The new world is permanent.
This helps us understand that the purpose of our temporary world is preparation for the permanent one. It is part of this ongoing act of creation, molding and shaping what is to come.
Preparation not permanent.
This New Year’s Eve celebration will be nothing compared to the new heaven and earth celebration we will have someday!
Lord Jesus, continue preparing me for my heavenly home! Amen!
