Select a verse from today’s reading
Acts 17:16 (NKJV) Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
Paul was in Athens. He had stirred things up in Philippi, Thessalonica and Berea. Everywhere he went he preached Christ and a mob followed. Silas and Timothy stayed in Berea but Paul slipped away to Athens. Maybe he could have some peace and quiet.
All he had to do was wait quietly for Silas and Timothy.
As he walked around Athens, he kept seeing idolatry everywhere he went. There was an attempt at spirituality but it was misdirected. Sort of a ‘swing and a miss’.
Paul felt compelled to do something. He couldn’t not do something. If their desire to know God was sincere, he had to tell them about the One who came to reveal the Father.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Sharing Jesus with others isn’t something we do because we have to. It’s something we get to do.
Someone shared about Jesus with me. I’m so glad they did. It was through Campus Life ministry in high school. He was a teacher. He didn’t have to do it. In fact, there was an amount of risk. But he did it anyway. He couldn’t not do it.
The fear of rejection, ridicule and discomfort have too often kept me from sharing about Jesus to others. Find ways. Make ways.
I want to get where I can’t not tell others about Jesus.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Lord, Show me how to share You with others. Destroy hesitation. Amen.
