S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

2 Chronicles 32:17 (NKJV) He also wrote letters to revile the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of [other] lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand.”

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

The king and leaders of Assyria were threatening to destroy Jerusalem and Judah as they had destroyed other nations in the past. They had been down this road before and had always been successful.

They knew the Jews would put their confidence God. Other nations put their trust in their gods. It had never helped before. They figured this time would be no different.

They miscalculated.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was not like the ‘gods’ of other nations. Not even close.

Assyria suffered their first defeat.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

It’s easy to make the mistake of underestimating God. I can underestimate God but i can never overestimate Him.

When people lump God in with other philosophies, world views and religions they come up with a very impotent view of God. That is definitely what is happening all around me.

I won’t let the low view of God expressed by others lessen my estimation of who He is. That’s exactly what they will try to do. He can’t be compared with anyone or anything else.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

God, Forgive me for underestimating You. Keep me from the world’s low opinion of who You are. Amen.
