S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Psalms 134:1-2 (NKJV) 1 A Song of Ascents. Behold, bless the LORD, All you servants of the LORD, Who by night stand in the house of the LORD! 2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, And bless the LORD.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

These two verses (nearly the entire psalm) bring back memories for me. As a new Christian I attended a small country church. My girlfriend’s (now wife) mom was the Song Leader. These two verses made up a song we used to sing back then.

In those days I was learning everything about the Bible, worship and being a Christian.

Raising hands in church was new for me. I didn’t understand it. It was awkward at first. But then I realized the sense of freedom and responsiveness it brought. I wasn’t just singing the song, I was becoming a part of it. I was standing alongside the small congregation, the psalmist and worshippers throughout generations raising my hands and praising the Lord.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

There is nothing more interactive than worship. It is not something I do as much as it is something I enter into. I am invited into the throne room of heaven through worship. I am transported from my cares and problems here to the power and majesty of God.

Come bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord!

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

God of the Universe, I praise and worship You today. Nothing is too difficult for You. No one is greater or more gracious than You. You are worthy to be praised! Amen.
