S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

2 Corinthians 1:24 (NKJV) Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

Who has dominion over my faith?

Paul made it very clear in this letter. Even though he brought the gospel to Corinth and shared the good news with many who were there; even though he was an apostle of the faith affirmed by Jesus Himself as well as the other apostles; even though he continued to write and share with them as their father in the faith; he did not have dominion over their faith.

Dominion speaks of authority, decision making and responsibility. Each person has dominion over her or his faith. No one else, not even a great apostle, can take that away.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I can’t give someone else responsibility, or blame, for my own faith. It is my responsibility.

I can’t take responsibility for someone else’s faith. Not even my own child. Many parents try to take dominion over their children’s faith. It works when they are very small. Once they become decision makers, they have to take dominion for their own faith.

Some pastors and spiritual leaders try to take dominion for other people’s faith. That’s what cults are all about. It doesn’t work in Gods kingdom.

Everyone must take dominion of their own faith and no one else’s. I am responsible for my own faith, whey therapy it is strong or weak. I friend of mine always says, “You’re as close to God as you want to be.”

It’s all up to me.
