S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

2 Samuel 2:4 (NKJV) Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

God had given David a promise that he would be the next king of Israel. God confirmed the promise with the anointing of the prophet Samuel.

Then for years and years David fled from Saul as he tried to kill David. David waited and kept running.

Then Saul died in battle. Certainly this would be the time when God would fulfill His promise. Not quite. This fulfillment was only partial. David was anointed as king, but only over the tribe of Judah, one twelfth of the nation of Israel.

With partial fulfillment David still believed and still waited. David showed amazing patience. Patience is always an exercise of trust.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

Patiently waiting for something that is outside of your control is always the worst. We hate waiting. We have very little patience.

I have often heard people say, “Never ask God for patience.” Why? Because He will give it to you. And it won’t be quick.

What is my patience quotient? Do I trust God enough to wait? Every day of waiting for me seems like a thousand years.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith and trust asked of me is just to wait. Don’t be anxious. Patience is a virtue. Am I virtuous? Patience shows maturity. Am I mature?

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, I trust in You and in Your word. I choose patience over anxiety. Amen.
