S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Deuteronomy 8:2 (NKJV) “And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

Moses said the reason for the wilderness and all it involved was to put their faith to the test.

Like a plumber who runs pipes throughout a house. You never really know if everything is right and working until water is released into the system. When the system is pressurized, then the leaks will show themselves. Even I could run pipes that don’t leak - as long as there’s no water. Like the guy who says, “My roof only leaks when it rains”.

It’s the same with faith. Everything is fine as long as it’s theoretical. What about when the system is pressurized? Then what happens.

Oh, and by the way, it says, “to know what was in your heart”. God already knew what was in their heart. It was so that they could see what was really in their own heart.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

God lovingly shows me what’s in my heart so that I can make necessary adjustments. When the system is pressurized the leaks appear. Then I know just where patches are needed.

It is for my good and for my growth.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, Help me to spot and to patch the leaks in my faith. Amen.
