Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Matthew 4:21-22 NKJV
There was nothing wrong with fishing. It wasn’t immoral or unethical. There was nothing wrong with working with their father. In fact, it was the expected thing for a son to do. There was nothing bad about where they were.
But they had to leave in order to follow Jesus. If they had stayed in their good job with their good father they would’ve missed out on being with Jesus. Sometimes it’s good things, not bad things, that get in the way of following Jesus.
It’s all about obedience.
Jesus, what do You want me to be doing today? Where do You want me to go? Who do you want me to encounter today? I’m all Yours.
