S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Haggai 2:4 (NKJV) ‘Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the LORD; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the LORD, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the LORD of hosts.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

God used the prophet Haggai to speak words of correction and encouragement to His people. They had wandered a little off the path. They had been sent to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. They were so preoccupied with their own houses that they forgot the house of God. That can happen.

Also, God sent Haggai to strengthen Zerubbabel, the leader. God affirmed the things Zerubbabel had been telling the people through the mouth of the prophet Haggai. With the two working in tandem the people responded. Neither Haggai nor Zerubbabel could have done it alone.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

God uses people and gifting within His Body to work together and strengthen each other to accomplish His purposes. If Haggai and Zerubbabel had been at odds with each other this would not have been accomplished.

Maybe God wants to use me to strengthen someone else and to help them accomplish their calling. Like Haggai, could I be used in that way or does it all have to be about me?

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Holy Spirit, Fulfill Your purposes in me. Use me today to strengthen, encourage, bless and help someone else. Amen.
