S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Numbers 30:2 (NKJV) “If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.”

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

Life requires trust and honesty between people. When trust is broken down living in community becomes almost impossible.

God affirms the importance of keeping your word. When a person commits to doing something but later finds out he or she doesn’t want to do it, there is a great temptation to change your course of action.

The commitment towards keeping your word must be stronger than the temptation to break your promise. Future dealings, relationships and reputation depends upon it.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

One of the great losses of our current day is the breakdown people keeping their word. A person’s word use to mean something. It was a point of character. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to mean much these days.

We have actually learned not to trust anything or anybody. Can you trust what you see on the internet? No. Can you trust deals or rewards you get via text or email? No. Even marriage vows are null and void when inconvenient.

All of this tells me it’s not important to keep your word. Lie if it’s to your advantage. But God’s Word is a strong reminder. Do not break your word. Even if the world around me doesn’t, my God always keeps His Word!

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, I am so glad I can trust Your Word. I will keep my word. Amen.
