Daily Reading // 2 Corinthians 12:14-21
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
2 Corinthians 12:15 (NKJV) And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.
Love is certainly one of those things that you want to be reciprocated. When you express love to someone you want them to respond with love for you.
Remember the notes in Jr. High School: “Do you like me? Check one box: _ Yes _ No”
Or sending a friend to find out how that person felt about you before you told them how you feel?
It’s risky to love because I might not be loved back. But God calls me to love unconditionally. Love in return can’t be a condition for love. Paul loved the Corinthians even though they may not have responded with more love for him.
What do I expect back when I act in love towards others? Love in return? Thanks? Appreciation? A ticker tape parade?
Am I willing to love - act generously and kind toward - others expecting nothing in return? That’s the kind of love Jesus shows and that’s the love I’m called to. Scripture says I’m to love the unlovely, my enemy, even those who persecute me.
Is that my kind of love? Or do I always expect something in return?
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
Jesus, You’re love for me is amazing and unconditional. Not just when You died on the cross, but today. I receive Your love. Love through me today. Amen.
