And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe. Then they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands.
John 19:2-3 NKJV
One thing for sure - there came a day when these soldiers regretted their actions. It may have been in this life, when Jesus rose from the dead and they knew He was who He said He was, or when they stood before Him in eternity. One thing is sure, they came to regret these foolish, careless, reckless actions.
Sometimes I am forced to regret my actions when I act, like these did, in the emotion of the moment, following the crowd and not sensitive to the pain I am causing others. It might not be a crown of thorns but a barbed comment or an act of neglect towards someone in need.
Jesus says, “What you do to the least you do to me.” I don’t want to stand before Him with regret.
Jesus, Help me to consider how each action of mine affects You. Amen.
