S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Isaiah 3:5 (NKJV) The people will be oppressed, Every one by another and every one by his neighbor; The child will be insolent toward the elder, And the base toward the honorable.”
Isaiah 5:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to [those who are] wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

These verses make me think of children out in the neighborhood playing a well-known and familiar game. Everyone begins knowing what the rules are and the final objective. Each starts out the game playing their best.

Then, mid game, those who aren’t doing well decide to change the rules in their favor. The starting line is now the finish line. Everything is now backwards. Who is in the lead now? Who is lagging behind?

There will always be people who feel they can change anything to fit themselves. There was in Isaiah’s day and there are in our day. They want to be in the lead, so they change the rules. What they don’t realize is keeping the rules is more valuable than winning.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

No one can change what God has established. Don’t be surprised or anxious about their attempts. What God has established is for my good. Rest in it.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Father, I want to know Your will, not change it. Live in me and through me in 2021. Amen.
