S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Mark 6:4 (NKJV) But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.”

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

This is always amazing - that the people who knew Jesus the best seemed to honor Him the least. They knew Him as a child. They knew His family. They watched Him grow up. He was ‘one of them’. They couldn’t imagine their neighbor was God.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I think Jesus wants to have a very close relationship with me. I think He is approachable and knowable.

But, be careful. He is God. I think sometimes in our zeal for grace and closeness with the Lord we can lose some of that honor. I saw a tee shirt with a cartoonish picture of Jesus and it said, “Jesus is my homeboy”. That’s probably just what they said in Nazareth.

I never want to lose the awe and reverence in my relationship with Jesus. He is God. I will never lose my honor for Him no matter how close I get.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Thank You that You have chosen to let me draw near to You. You who dwell in unapproachable light have made Yourself approachable To me. Hallelujah!
