Job 34:19 (NKJV) Yet He is not partial to princes, Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
It is difficult for people to be impartial. We find ourselves leaning toward those who are most like us, or are pleasing to us, or who can do the most for us.
We give preferential treatment to our own families, to the famous, to the beautiful, to the rich. There is always some characteristic that gives one person an edge over another.
This isn’t true for God. Eliminate everything we experience regarding partiality when you think of God. Jesus came and loved the unlovely. He sought out the needy and the broken. He commended a widow who gave just two mites into the treasury.
His grace is equally available to all.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Though we are all subject to expressing partiality, it is not a godly trait. It does not portray the heart of God. Partiality is a type of conditional love.
The early church was asked by James why they showed partiality to the rich. Paul fought the early tendency to show partiality to the Jews over the Gentiles.
So many of the cultural ills and violence of today are the result of partiality, biases and the divisions they cause. Races, lifestyle choices, political parties perverting justice to fit their biases.
When I deal with people - rich or poor, accomplished or not, beautiful or not, Christian or non-Christian - can I treat each one as God’s workmanship without bias? Without what I may get out of the relationship?
It’s an important question.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Jesus, You love me without condition, and I’m so grateful for that. Give me Your heart to do the same. Amen.
Such an important reminder I need to hear this one every day
