Daily Reading // 1 Corinthians 15:20-34
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
1 Corinthians 15:28 (NKJV) Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
What did Jesus come to do? He came to reverse the effects of the fall in Genesis 2.
Before the fall of man and the entrance of sin into the world, everything was subject to God and perfectly submitted to Him. All of creation gladly lined up under His authority. That’s what submission means.
When Adam and Eve sinned and disobeyed God, that perfect submission was destroyed. Now part of creation took itself out of God’s authority to become their own authority. As a result, all of creation was thrown off balance. Nothing works quite the way it’s supposed to work anymore. Death is part of that lack of equilibrium.
Jesus came to correct that situation. By bringing everything in submission to Him, including death, He can then submit to the Father and create perfect submission. Anything and anyone not submitting to Him will remain outside this perfect union. To spend eternity away from God is the very definition of hell. It will be the choice of all who are unwilling to submit to God.
The problem was created through rebellion. The answer comes through submission. The answer to rebellion is not more rebellion but submission. Jesus’s greatest weapon and most powerful miracle was the miracle of submission.
Submission is a characteristic of Jesus and His Kingdom. Rebellion is a characteristic of this world and its kingdom.
Perfect submission is Jesus’ remedy and our eternity.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
Jesus, When You put all things in submission to the Father, I will be glad to be part of that ‘all things’. I submit to You today. Continue to rid rebellion from my life and give me perfect submission. Amen.
