Daily Reading // Isaiah 40:1-14
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
Isaiah 40:13-14 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? 14 With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?
The first one to do something new is on his own.
When I first joined the army and was preparing for basic training, I wanted to hear from anyone who had experienced it. I wanted to know what to expect. I wanted some tips for success (or at least survival). I listened very carefully.
But if someone had not experienced it, I had no interest in what they said. They could only guess at what it was like. Maybe they watched Gomer Pyle, or some other show. You can’t share experiences you have never had.
I’ve noticed that God has a lot of people telling Him how to be God who have never done it before. Sometimes I feel like I have some tips and tricks for Him, some solid plans for Him to follow, but I have to admit I don’t really know what I’m talking about. God is far better at ‘Godding’ than I could ever be. I could learn from Him, but never be His teacher.
God is the first and only Creator of the universe. He alone has the experience and ability to hold everything together and accomplish His perfect will. Nobody taught Him or showed Him how to do it, and nobody can.
I’ll keep my pro tips to myself.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
God, When I think about how much I benefit from Your hand guiding creation, I am overwhelmed. Even today You are blessing Me. I have no advice for You. Keep up the good work. Amen.
