Listen, O coastlands, to Me, And take heed, you peoples from afar! The Lord has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.
Kings shall be your foster fathers, And their queens your nursing mothers; They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, And lick up the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord, For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.
Isaiah 49:1, 16, 23 NKJV
There were a number of phrases from Isaiah 49 that stuck out to me today.
“The Lord has called me from the womb”
God was already at work in my life before I was born. I can certainly trust Him with my life today.
“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands”
What a beautiful verse about Jesus’ sacrifice and death. When I think about the palm of His hands, the place where Thomas touched Him, the inscription are the marks of crucifixion. Those marks were made for me.
“For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.”
Instead of rushing ahead out of anxiety or a desire for control, wait on the Lord. I’ll be glad I did.
