Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread.
Acts 12:2-3 NKJV
It’s interesting to me that James was killed by Herod but Peter was rescued from harm by angels. What a great difference between the two.
In the case of James, it seemed as though Herod had his way and defeated God. In the case of Peter we see that Herod was helpless against God’s power.
What was the difference between the two? The will of God. God has never lost to Herod or to anybody. We imagine we know His will and that it is always rescue. It’s not. I don’t understand why it’s one thing one time and something else another. I don’t have to understand. I trust Him.
Father God, You are never beaten or out smarted. My confidence is in You, not in circumstances or outcomes. Amen.
