Speak Softly, Lord

Daily Reading // Isaiah 8:1-10

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 8:6-7 6 "Inasmuch as these people refused The waters of Shiloah that flow softly, And rejoice in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son; 7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them The waters of the River, strong and mighty-- The king of Assyria and all his glory; He will go up over all his channels And go over all his banks.

The Lord came to His people as water flowing softly through Shiloh. But the people ignored it and refused it. It didn’t get their attention. God was forced to do something more attention-getting. Like when you speak softly to someone but they ignore you, so you have to raise your voice. Listen to the still, small voice of God. You don’t want Him to raise His voice. Have I been ignoring the voice of God? That’s a dangerous place to be.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Father, I know there are times when I don’t listen to Your clear word and You have to get my attention. I want to be attentive to You so You don’t have to shout. Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.
