Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NKJV) The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
The beginning of a thing is new and exciting. Groups of people flock to new things. Grand openings draw big crowds. The start of a new year many people begin new resolutions with fresh optimism. But how many stick with it and stay committed?
There is a strength and a virtue in patience. It certainly seems as though patience is becoming less and less common. Having patience is the only way to see something through to the end. Beyond its glitter and it’s shine to the point of fruitfulness.
God has built the need for patience into creation. Farmers plant and have to wait. Children are born and over time grow into adults. It’s all around us.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
I like the beginning of things. I sometimes struggle to see the end of things. Somewhere in between I get restless and impatient. This verse is a good reminder to develop patience. ‘Good things come to those who wait’.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Lord, Give me the maturity and strength of character to grow in patience. Amen.
